IN PHOTOS: CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS IN VANCOUVER

CANADA Day celebrations in Vancouver were well attended, with an estimated 350,000 to 400,000 people at its peak. Larger crowds arrived downtown earlier than initially anticipated for the family-oriented event, likely due to the beautiful weather.

“We had a visible presence, and worked closely with our fellow first responders, event organizers, and transit,” says Vancouver Police Constable Jason Doucette. “We were all committed to ensuring a safe and worry-free celebration.”

Some of the notable incidents police dealt with were:

  • one person arrested for being too intoxicated in a public place
  • two people were arrested for breach of the peace and later released
  • approximately 80 liquor pour-outs took place at various locations, with the exception of Canada Place where they were no pour-outs

“The crowds were patient and generally well-behaved,” pointed outsays VPD Constable Jason Doucette. “I guess you could say they were very Canadian.”
